Linear and Nonlinear Circuit Elements

What is a Combination Circuit?

Not all circuits are simple series or parallel arrangements. Many are combinations of parallel resistors connected in series with other resistors or combinations of resistors.

  • A combination circuit contains both series and parallel elements.

  • A simple combination circuit is shown in Figure 11.1.

  • To determine which components are in parallel and which are in series, trace the flow of current through the circuit.

  • Remember, a series circuit is one that has only one path for current flow, and a parallel circuit has more than one path for current flow that means the current will divide.
