Kinds of collision :

• Coulomb collision (1 kind, 4 facts) - The collision between two charged particles.
• elastic collision (3 facts) - A collision between two particles which conserves the total kinetic energy and momentum of the system. For atomic collisions it is one involving energy less than the excitation potential of the atom., Particle reactions in which the same particles emerge from the reaction as entered it (e.g. π^- p → π^- p). In inelastic scattering, where different and/or new particles emerge, energy is used to create new particles.
• inelastic collision (2 facts) - A reaction involving a change in the kinetic energy of the system, as in ionization, excitation, or capture; or a process which changes the energy level of the system.
• scattering (16 kinds, 44 facts) - Collision between a photon and a particle, The process whereby light is absorbed and reemitted in all directions, with essentially no change in frequency. Scattering by free electrons was the dominant source of opacity in the early universe.
• spin-flip collision (3 facts) - Collision between particles in which the direction of the spin angular momentum changes. Since the total angular momentum is conserved, the orbital angular momentum must be changed in magnitude or direction or both.
