CWM uses XMI as its interchange mechanism. This means that the full power and flexibility of XMI is available for interchanging
both warehouse metadata and the CWM metamodel itself. CWM does not require any extensions to XMI.
A standard DTD for the CWM metamodel is generated using XMI’s DTD Production Rules. Warehouse metadata can then be encoded
as an XML document using XMI’s Document Production Rules.
A standard XML document for the CWM metamodel is also generated using XMI’s Document Production Rules, based on the MOF DTD.
